Taking the Leap: I'm starting a Computer Science Masters
I often make the joke...
If I had £1 every time someone asked if I knew a developer, I could afford to do a Computer Science Masters.
Well I've been saving up, and decided to put my money where my mouth is. From October, I will be going back to school to study an MSc Computer Science at the University of Nottingham.
This is a path I've been considering for a while. I see it as an opportunity to add deep technical skills to my strategic design bow. Over the past few years I've been teaching myself software development. I'm now pretty comfortable with Node.js, Python, Ruby and Front-End web languages. Through the Masters, I plan to sharpen these skills, whilst learning advanced Machine Learning and Data Science methods.
It is going to be challenging for sure, but I'm excited about being able to make things again. Afterwards, I will be able to work on projects at any stage of an idea; using insights, design and technology to improve peoples' lives.
Taking the leap means that Broadway will be recruiting for a new Producer to lead Near Now. I'm proud of all we achieved over 4 years since founding it as a programme in 2013. There are exciting projects ahead, including Explorers Fair - a celebration of arts, play, science and tech for young curious explorers.
Near Now's mission is to research and create technology for everyday life. At the heart of this mission, is a deep commitment to people. I am humbled to have worked with some of the leading minds and makers in the field. Their focus and craft continues to be a source of inspiration, and many of my lessons learned come from them.
I'm available for new projects.
If you are looking for a design minded developer to help you make, and make sense of, new technologies - I would love to hear from you.
